Sumitomo Electric Lightwave Warranty Program

There are three (3) Warranty programs for the FutureFLEX product line available to our end users and are as follows:
1. Standard Two (2) Year Product Warranty
2. Extended Fifteen (15) Year Warranty
3. Premium Twenty-five (25) Year Warranty
Note: All of these Programs are available at no charge to the End User.

Standard Two (2) Year Warranty Coverage

The standard two (2) year warranty does not require the LFI to apply for nor does it require them to submit any information. This warranty simply states that the product is warranted to be free from defect and will perform as stated in the specifications for a period of 2 years from date of shipment and if found to be defective will be repaired or replaced at Sumitomo’s discretion and only covers the material.

This warranty does not cover any item that has been altered from its original manufactured state, or if damage has occurred before, during or after installation due to negligence, war or acts of God.

Extended Warranty Coverage
Sumitomo Electric Lightwave (SEL) 15-Year Product Warranty

SEL warrants the installed FutureFLEX Air-Blown Fiber (ABF) System, including parts (tube cable and fiber bundle) and workmanship to be free of defects for fifteen (15) Years from the date of shipment.

The Licensed FutureFLEX Installer (LFI) is certifying the installation has been installed according to established Sumitomo Recommended Procedures (SRPs) and will be responsible for repairing or replacing at their cost any defect in the installation process which caused a failure. If a material defect is discovered, the LFI shall notify SEL in writing of the defect(s) and SEL will replace the item(s). SEL will not pay for the labor to replace or repair the defective product covered under this warranty program.

This warranty does not cover any item that has been altered from its original manufactured state, or if damage has occurred before, during or after installation due to negligence, war or acts of God

In no event shall SEL or any of its Distributors be liable for any consequential, incidental, indirect, exemplary, special, or punitive damages, including any damages for business interruption or loss of use, revenue or profit.

Warranty Conditions:
To obtain a valid warranty, the following criteria must be met:
1.The system must have been installed by a current certified LFI in good standing, all installation records must be updated to reflect any maintenance, movements, additions or changes. SEL will not be responsible for work performed by any unauthorized entity including the customer/owner.
2. All warranty claims must be made by the original LFI, or the local manufacturer’s representative.
3. SEL reserves the right to do an onsite inspection of the entire job, including random testing, prior to issuing a warranty certificate.

In the event of a warranty claim, the end user shall provide free access to the system to both the original LFI and SEL.

The following is a list of items that must be submitted to obtain this warranty coverage:
Warranty Application Form
A completed Warranty Registration Form; obtained from the Sumitomo Electric Lightwave website at: www.sumitomoelectriclightwave.com

Tube Pressure and Tube Obstruction Test Data
Original test data for the Pressure and Obstruction testing for each tube in every tube cable installed. Sample Test Data Sheets are available on the Sumitomo Electric Lightwave web site. This testing must be witnessed by a third party.

 Splice Case Flash Test Data
Original test data for the Flash Test of each installed Splice Case is required. This requirement applies specifically to Splice Cases that have been installed below grade or have the potential of becoming submerged under a limited height of water. When applicable, the installation and assembly shall follow the manufacturer directions to achieve a water tight seal. All SEL warranted Splice Cases shall be installed to manufacturer requirements to achieve the Ingress Protection (IP) Rating applicable to the environment it will be installed.

4. Fiber test results: (There are two acceptable formats for fiber optic testing)
A. Power meter/Light source. 100% of all installed fibers must be tested and the results submitted. The results are to be provided in electronic format at the highest wavelength. Results are to be submitted with the correct viewing software and all fiber spans identified as per the As-Built drawings.
B. OTDR 100% of all installed fibers must be tested and the results submitted. The results are to be provided in electronic format at the highest wavelength. Electronic copies of Bi-Directional measurements are required at the highest wavelength. Results are to be submitted with the correct viewing software and all fiber spans identified as per the As-Built drawings. If special instructions are needed to use viewing software, they must be included.

5. As-Built Drawings
As-built drawings must be submitted either in hard copy or electronic format with all tube and fiber routes identified using the project labeling scheme. Electronic copies must be in an AutoCAD or Visio format.

6. Photographs of ALL Manholes,-Tube Distribution Units and Splice Cases
Digital photographs all of manholes, tube distribution units and/or splice cases used in the project must be included with the Warranty package. The photographs must show at a minimum the following items: the support mechanism for mounting the tube cable, the support mechanism for mounting the TDU or the splice case, the routing of the tubes inside the tube distribution/splice case, fittings used to secure the tube cable to the TDU, fittings used to secure and route the tube cable in the manhole or cable tray.

7. Submit copies of purchase invoices for the FutureFLEX products used in the installation

Warranty Exclusions:
This warranty does not cover:
1. Products not specifically designated as being eligible.
2. Products not supplied by SEL.
3. Products used that were falsely represented as being in compliance with SEL requirements.
4. Defects resulting from a noncompliant or improper system design, installation use, repair, or any system alterations, misuse, neglect, accident or abuse.
5. The installation of any manufacturer’s fiber bundles, optical fibers, cables into SEL tube cables will immediately void any and all warranties previously issued.
6. The installation of any manufacturer’s fiber bundles, optical fibers, cables into SEL tubes or tube cables is a violation of the National Electric Code (NEC) and may be a violation of the local codes.

Claim Procedure:
1. SEL must be notified in writing, by the LFI or local manufacturing representative, of the problem or defect.
2. SEL will authorize replacement or repair after a review by SEL has established that a product defect exists and is not caused by improper design, installation or usage of the product from its original intended purpose.

Warranty Remedy:
SEL will utilize whatever means, deemed necessary by SEL, to verify the defect or malfunction. For valid warranty claims, SEL will at its option, replace or repair any qualified product found to be defective.

Premium Warranty Coverage
Sumitomo Electric Lightwave (SEL) 25-Year Product Warranty

SEL warrants the installed FutureFLEX Air-Blown Fiber (ABF) System, including parts (tube cable, fiber bundle, Tube Distribution Units (TDU’s), Fiber Termination Units (FTU’s), and associated SEL products) and workmanship to be free of defects for twenty five (25) Years from the date of shipment.

The Licensed FutureFLEX Installer (LFI) is certifying the installation has been installed according to established Sumitomo Recommended Procedures (SRP’s) and will be responsible for repairing or replacing at their cost any defect in the installation process which caused a failure . If a material defect is discovered, the LFI shall notify SEL in writing of the defect(s) and SEL will replace the item(s).
