Sumitomo Electric Lightwave Warranty Program

There are three (3) Warranty programs for the 4th Level product line available to our end users and are as follows:

1. Standard One (1) Year Product Warranty
2. Extended Fifteen (15) Year Warranty
3. Premium Twenty-five (25) Year Warranty

Note: All of these Programs are available at no charge to the End User.

Warranty Exclusions:
This warranty does not cover:
1. Products not specifically designated as being eligible.
2. Products not supplied by SEL.
3. Products used that were falsely represented as being in compliance with SEL requirements.
4. Defects resulting from a noncompliant or improper system design, installation use, repair, or any system alterations, misuse, neglect, accident or abuse.

Claim Procedure:
1. SEL must be notified in writing, by the LFI or local manufacturing representative, of the problem or defect.
2. SEL will authorize replacement or repair after a review by SEL has established that a product defect exists and is not caused by improper design, installation or usage of the product from its original intended purpose.

Warranty Remedy:
SEL will utilize whatever means, deemed necessary by SEL, to verify the defect or malfunction. For valid warranty claims, SEL will at its option, replace or repair any qualified product found to be defective.

Standard One (1) Year Warranty Coverage
The standard one (1) year warranty does not require the installer/end user to apply for nor does it require them to submit any information. This warranty simply states that the product is warranted to be free from defect and will perform as stated in the specifications for a period of one (1) year from date of shipment and if found to be defective will be repaired or replaced at Sumitomo’s discretion and only covers the material.
This warranty does not cover any item that has been altered from its original manufactured state, or if damage has occurred before, during or after installation due to negligence, war or acts of God.

Extended Warranty Coverage
Sumitomo Electric Lightwave (SEL) 15-Year Product Warranty

SEL warrants the 4th LEVEL and related SEL supplied products to be free of defects in material and workmanship for a period of fifteen (15) years from the date of shipment.

This warranty is available for installations utilizing Lynx2 fusion splice-on connectors and 4th LEVEL Products and which have been accepted by SEL into the Extended Warranty Program. Furthermore, the installation shall be performed by a SEL certified installer and all optical fiber splices and terminations shall be performed using Sumitomo optical fiber fusion splicer(s) with current calibration certificate. SEL will not pay for the labor to replace or repair the defective product covered under this warranty program.

This warranty does not cover any item that has been altered from its original manufactured state, or if damage has occurred before, during or after installation due to negligence, war or acts of God

In no event shall SEL or any of its Distributors be liable for any consequential, incidental, indirect, exemplary, special, or punitive damages, including any damages for business interruption or loss of use, revenue or profit.
The following is a list of items that must be submitted for application for this warranty:

  • Complete the Warranty registration and submit to SEL.
  • Electronic copies of all termination and fiber test results, using an optical power meter or OTDR with fiber spans identified per As-Built Drawing.
  • OTDR or Power Meter/Light Source – measurements at the highest wavelength. Viewing software for PM/LS or OTDR results required.
  • All software required to run or view the test data must accompany the application.
  • Copies of as built drawings must be submitted to SEL via electronic or hard copy to SEL. (Drawings must be in AutoCAD, Solid Works or Visio)
  • Submit copies of purchase invoices for the Lynx2 and 4th LEVEL Cables products used in the installation. (Hard copies only )
  • Submit model and serial number of Sumitomo optical fiber fusion splicer(s) used for install along with copy of current calibration certificate
  • Submit list of SEL certified installers (First and Last Name)

Premium Warranty Coverage
Sumitomo Electric Lightwave (SEL) 25-Year Product Warranty

SEL warrants the 4th LEVEL and related SEL supplied products to be free of defects in material and workmanship for a period of twenty-five (25) years from the date of shipment.

This warranty is available for installations utilizing Lynx2 fusion splice-on connectors and 4th LEVEL Products and which have been accepted by SEL into the Extended Warranty Program. Furthermore, the installation shall be performed by a SEL certified installer and all optical fiber splices and terminations shall be performed using Sumitomo optical fiber fusion splicer(s) with current calibration certificate. SEL will not pay for the labor to replace or repair the defective product covered under this warranty program.

For the Extended Warranty and the Premium Warranty programs, SEL will evaluate the data supplied. SEL engineers will review the data and make a determination as to whether the installation will be accepted and an extended warranty granted.

Once this determination is made, if the application is accepted SEL will issue a warranty certificate in the name of the end-user.
If the application is rejected, a letter explaining the reason for the rejection will be issued.  

  • Complete the Warranty registration Form and submit to SEL 
  • Original handwritten test results from the field are required; typed results are not acceptable. 
  • Electronic copies of all fiber results, using an optical power meter or OTDR with fiber spans identified per As-Built Drawing. 
    • Power Meter – measurements at the highest wavelength
    • OTDR – Bi-Directional measurements at the highest wavelength. Viewing software for OTDR results required.
  • All software required to run or view the test data must accompany the application.
  • Copies of as built drawings must be submitted to SEL via electroni or hard copy to SEL. (Drawings must be un AutoCAD or Visio)
  • Submit copies of purchase invoices for the products used in the installation. (Hard copies only ) 
  • Complete the Warranty registration Form and submit to SEL.
