SEL Releases 72-Fiber Bundle for FutureFLEX® Air-Blown Fiber Portfolio

9/10/18 Raleigh, NC – Sumitomo Electric Lightwave Corp., a group company of Sumitomo Electric Industries, released a new 72ct Fiber Bundle utilizing our exclusive Freeform Ribbon® technology.  The new 72ct fiber bundle, qualified for both outdoor and indoor (riser and plenum) use, addresses the growing fiber demands needed in many of today’s network requirements.

Sumitomo Electric’s new 72ct Fiber bundle can provide up to 144 fibers when used with a 2 cell Tube cable and can increase fiber capacity up to 1,728 fibers when installed into a 24 cell Tube Cable. The higher capacity is consistent with fiber demand even in the ultra-high fiber count and hyper-scale space.

The benefits of the new 72ct fiber bundle extend beyond just the fiber capacity.  The bundle uses a construction based on Sumitomo Electric’s pliable Freeform Ribbon®.  This technology makes the termination process fully streamlined for either single fiber or mass ribbon fiber splicing/termination.  The Freeform Ribbon® technology within the fiber bundle eliminates former construction components that required discrete preparation steps during the termination process, thus creating a product that is both easier and faster to terminate.  Also, being a ribbon based construction allows for mass ribbon splicing to ribbon fan-outs or directly to Sumitomo Electric’s Lynx MPO splice-on connector.  Finally, with a quick and easy process of separating the ribbon terminating individually to Lynx-CustomFit® Splice-On Connectors continues to be a popular option.
